10 May Alchemy Launch day! Saturday 20th May
UPDATE: The event at Glasshouse Arts Centre on Saturday 20th May is no longer going ahead. Due to unforeseen Visa restrictions the act will be unable to perform in the UK on that day, despite the best efforts of all involved. (posted 18.05.17)
Join us on Saturday 20th May for the launch of Alchemy Black Country. The first day of the festival is going to be action packed with two superb performances by Circus Raj, later in the day followed by India Rocks! an eclectic mix of art, photography, and music.
Circus Raj is free for children and £5 for adults, whereas India Rocks! is free for everyone (14 yrs +).
The launch day takes place at two locations:
Circus Raj- Glasshouse Arts Centre, Wollaston Road, Stourbridge, DY8 4HF. (10am-4pm)
India Rocks!- Wolverhampton Arts Gallery, Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton WV1 1DU (6pm-10pm)
Circus Raj is a supergroup of elite street circus performers from enchanting Rajasthan, they combine their skills to perform breathtaking acts of courage and bravery. Preserved over many centuries from the time of the Maharajas- they take this ancient, mystical, and magical circus format to even greater heights.
Circus Raj’s cast of talented dancers, illusionists, aerialists, acrobats, and rope walkers, with the eye-watering displays by their fakir, present a colourful, vibrant, fast-paced extravaganza of intrigue, drama, laughter, music, and surprise.
Circus Raj are performing twice on the launch day, with the first performance being at 11am, and the second at 2pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults, and is free for children. The show is suitable for ages 5 and over. For more information call the box office at 01384 399 433.
India Rocks! is a sublime show which focuses on British Asians and their relationship with India, opening with a panel discussion about India from a uniquely British perspective hosted by BBC journalist Ruchi Tandon.
Followed up by an exclusive performance from mercury nominated DJ Swami with ‘Punjabtronix’, in which sounds of Punjab meet cutting edge electronica.
And lastly, get the chance to explore the Black Country’s Punjab through a prism of women’s lives. Four talented photographers: Uzma Mohsin (India), Andrea Fernandes (India), Jennifer Pattison (UK), and Jocelyn Allen (UK) all present Girls, Girls, Girls! a work in progress. Through a pop-up photo studio.
