08 Jul Comedy Playhouse – Week 5
The comedy course is well under way and with just two weeks to go before the final showcase performance, the attendee’s are gaining in confidence and perfecting their act.
The course is a joint venture between Dudley Deaf Theatre & Janice Connolly who wanted to make the course accessible as possible to the Deaf community and those who are hard-of-hearing, whilst still making the final performance open to both a hearing and non-hearing audience.
The project is being supported by Black Country Touring and is the first of its kind in the region, Deb Justice gives us an insight to the process:
“We have just finished week 5 of the Comedy Playhouse comedy course. This week Steve Day joined Janice Connolly, the Comedy Playhouse comedians and the interpreters. After warming up with a mug of coffee, the sign name game and ‘meet the chicks’, Janice split everyone into smaller groups and they worked on their material for the showcase on the 21st July at the Arena.
It has been very exciting and there has been lots of laughter and fun along the way. The group has bonded and offer support and encouragement to one another. Janice has been brilliant bringing out the latent comedy in the new performers. If last nights run through is anything to go by… we are in for a treat.
Barbara Nice will host the evening with Steve Day doing a special guest slot and the performers will be Michael, Sarah, Darren, Jeff, Bob, Irene and Fiona with their new and individual comedy material.
If you are at a loose end on Tuesday 21st July at 7.30pm come a long to The Tilstone Studio at Arena Theatre and experience a comedy feast”
