04 Nov The Comedy Playhouse returns…
Back in the summer our promoter’s Dudley Deaf Theatre embarked on a new venture into the realms of comedy and stand-up,to be inclusive for both hearing and Deaf audiences. After a great deal of planning & preparation, supported by Janice Connolly (a.k.a Barbara Nice) and Black Country Touring, ‘The Comedy Playhouse’ was born.
Starting with a six week comedy course in June, seven participants got to work alongside Phoenix Nights regular Janice and deaf comedian Steve Day to develop their comedy skills. Each act was developed in a particular way that made their performance inclusive to all, with the help of three BSL interpreters and a lip speaker. Resulting in a showcase performance in July where each budding comedian got to perform alongside their mentors.
Check out our video below showing some of the best bits from the evening.
There is also another opportunity to catch the showcase performance on the 8th December at Coseley Working Men’s Club in Bilston, starting at 7.30pm, tickets are just £5.
