Item 2 Investigating Shops: Classroom detectives. PowerPoint presentation. Can be used along side "Investigating Shops: Teacher Notes and Activity Ideas" and "Images of Old Shops".

PowerPoint presentation includes 16 images of buildings used as shops through the ages; starting with 16th century Tudor design to Modern shop buildings of the 1980s.

There are notes accompanying each slide/image which detail the architectural features to look out for when investigating the age of different shop buildings. Permission given to print images. Accompanied by key facts about history of corner shop.

Item 3 Investigating Shops: Teacher Notes and Activity Ideas. Can be used along side "Investigating Shops: classroom detectives" PowerPoint and "Images of Old Shops"

Included in this guide are clues to help building detectives look above the shop fronts to help work out how old the building might be. This information will help your pupils understand the most common styles of shops found in our towns and cities. Activity ideas, pupil crib sheets and work sheets included.

Item 4 Images of old shops: PowerPoint presentation. Includes a series of black and white images of shops in Smethwick and West Bromwich, found in the Archives. You can use these to stimulate discussion about the differences between shops then and now, and test out pupil's investigation skills. Includes a few investigative questions in the notes. POWERPOINT
Item 5 Clipboard design template for pupil interviews. This template is designed to look like a clip board and will lend itself to display purposes as well as gives the pupils a sense that they are conducting research. Can be printed and written on, or text typed in. WORD
Item 6 Photo frame and plaque display template for class projects. Photo frame template in which pupils can put drawing/photo of local shop. Under the photo is a plaque outline where pupils can write or type information about the shop that they have found out or researched. WORD

Item 1 Food Products and Migration: Citizenship and geography themed activity and teacher notes. The activity includes images of food products found in three Black Country specialist / Corner Shops which originate from across the world. They include products from Jamaica, Iran, Turkey, the Indian Subcontinent and Poland. These images can be used alongside a map of the world to explore idea of migration to UK and today's UK diverse communities. Teacher notes and activity ideas included. PDF
Item 2 How to set up your own oral history project: A useful guide for teachers. Oral history projects are a great way to link cross curricular subjects and develop pupil's investigation skills. A guide for Teachers about setting up and running an oral history project. Guidelines are based on the Corner Shop Project case study and informed by The Oral History Society and English Heritage best practice. Also includes documentation templates which can be adapted ( for archival storage).
