30 Nov Welcome To Our New Administration and Communications Co-ordinator!
We would like to introduce you to our newest member of the BCT team, Joanne Blunt! Joanne has been with us almost a week now so it’s time to find out a little more about her…
My name is Joanne and I am the new Administration and Communications Co-ordinator for Black Country Touring.
I have called the Black Country home since I was born and I am a very proud Wulfronian. I got my education at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School and went off to study Physics at University. I thought, to occupy my time and make some friends, I would join the student theatre and help out backstage. Maybe they would need a stagehand from time to time? 3 years later I found myself as head of the technical department and producing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the second time. I loved it. I loved the work and the community the theatre built both on the stage and in the auditorium. I wasn’t quite ready to give it up for a life locked inside a Physics lab.
I heard about an MA course in Creative Producing at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. I applied, and to my complete surprise was accepted. It was an amazing year. I learned so much and it really opened my eyes to how the arts industries operate across the country, the amazing work they do and how hard they work to genuinely transform lives and communities. After one particular visit to a theatre, I knew I wanted to spend my career bringing together local people using the arts. This theatre was the centre of its community, full of people and making a huge difference on a daily basis. In one of my final modules, I chose the Black Country as my area of study and quickly found Black Country Touring. “That would be the ideal place to work”, I thought. They use the community to promote shows to a very local audience, produce work to tell regional stories and work to reach out and increase access to the arts for local people – that sounds like my kind of place!
By an absolutely incredibly lucky piece of timing, on the week I came home, BCT advertised for the admin and comms role. I graduated on Thursday and started on Monday. I am so excited to learn from this organisation. I’ve only been here a few days but I can assure you there are so many things going on and a great team of people driving it forward. My post-it notes are ready, I’m logged into all the social media accounts and I’m ready and raring to go!
If you would like to get hold of me, my email is email@example.com. I hope to hear from you soon!
